These days newspaper circulation has been considerably reduced and, in addition, communication is usually by digital means such as WhatsApp, email, SMS, Face Book and other social media platforms. Sadly, this has meant that, when a person dies, there are family members and friends who don’t get to learn of the death. I have experienced this with both a relative and a friend of many years. I learnt of their deaths only a couple of months later. I was so sad that I had not been able to attend their funeral or to pass on condolences to the family. I am sure that most, if not all, of you have had this experience. What I have done is to create a list of those whom I would like to be sure are informed of my death. The list consists of their name, email and/or telephone details and a note saying whether they are friend or family with whom I had not been in contact recently. I have mentioned this to a few people and they have now done the same. I urge each of you to make such a list and to file it with your Will and other papers that the Executor of you Estate will need.
